Happy day my Queens! I want to share a thought with you really quickly. Raise your hand if you have considered or have already started your own business. How many of you are aware of the benefits of having your own business? For those of you who know and those of you who are in business for yourself, WONDERFUL! For those of you who may not know and/or who are trying to decide if owning your own business is right for you, I'd like to share some information with you.

Based on a report by The Road to Zero Wealth report published by Prosperity Now and the Institute for Policy Studies, Black wealth will be full to zero by 2053. I can’t think of a better reason to consider entrepreneurship! I mean, think about it, even those of us who have landed executive jobs in big corporations, who have a couple of degrees under our belts, and who make six figures aren’t even safe. Our children and grandchildren are in trouble!

So, if 1,817 women are starting new businesses per day, then why are we not all looking at this as an opportunity? Honestly, I can think of many legitimate reasons but none that outweigh the benefits, especially when considering our responsibility to the generations to come.

That being said, here are a few reasons why I believe, we, as Black, women should at least consider entrepreneurship, a) ownership allows us the freedom to provide and support our communities in a way that we may be unable to do when working in a majority White corporation; b) having a Black-owned business gives us the privilege of employing other people of color; c) and the more Black-owned businesses we have collectively, the stronger we are economically, making our communities strong enough to function independently if and when necessary.

In conclusion, although I encourage entrepreneurship, I am not, by any means. suggesting that it's easy so before quitting your day job, develop a plan. There are tons and tons of ideas on how to do this successfully online and in your local libraries. It is a process and takes a special kind of person to dedicate themselves to this life (some say it takes a crazy kind of person - I'm okay with that) but it is definitely worth it. Having several successful businesses, I am always willing to help If I can so email me. =)

It is time for us to change the game, and teach our children and those within our community to become producers, not just consumers. I mean think about it, Black people spend somewhere around $1.2 trillion a year on stuff, imagine if we took some of the consumption and turned it into production. Something to think about....

Oh yeah, my Queens, don't forget to support other Black-owned businesses. Strengthening the local economy will in turn close the racial wealth gap. We need to use the power that we have as Queens of this universe to strengthen, support, and save our Queendoms.
